Bernie - I am Positive

North Belfast woman Bernadette McAleenan lost her daughter, Aisling, to a brain tumour 10 years ago, when she was just 14 years old. As a result of that heartbreaking loss and other traumatic experiences in her past, she has struggled with her mental health for some time.

New Lease of life

However, Bernie has been given a new lease of life through participating in Belfast Works Connect, a free programme available across the five Council areas of Belfast and Greater Belfast including Ards & North Down, Lisburn & Castlereagh, Antrim & Newtownabbey, and Mid & East Antrim to anyone who is not currently working or in full-time education.

New Friendships

Through Belfast Works Connect, Bernie and her friend Deborah have made new friends and taken up new hobbies like crafting, as well as benefiting from free courses in personal confidence and self-esteem, women and leadership, massage, and reflexology.

Consortium Partnership

Belfast Works Connect is made of a consortium of five partners, Upper Springfield Development, Ashton Community Trust, East Belfast Mission, GEMSNI and Impact Training and funded by the UK’s government’s Levelling Up Fund.
